If you find glasses or contact lenses to be annoying, consider laser eye correction to correct your vision. Corrective laser vision surgery is making great advances every day, and new techniques are being developed. One of the most popular of these new procedures is LASIK laser eye surgery. This is an outpatient procedure, with a recovery period of just a day or two, and almost instant vision improvement. Plus, LASIK comes with a very low risk of complications or side effects. LASIK eye surgery is an exciting new development that offers the ability to create perfect or near-perfect vision.
This very successful method of eye correction, like most methods of laser vision correction, is most often used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. However, LASIK eye correction can also be used to correct several other eye conditions, including macular degeneration and presbyopia, which is blurred vision when focusing close-up. LASIK is offering many people the chance to improve their vision drastically with just a short procedure.
LASIK is unique because of the way the surgeon gains access to the cornea. LASIK, or Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, involves the cutting of a flap in the corner of the eye. The surgeon will numb your eyes with anesthetic drops, and then create this flap, underneath which is the cornea. Then, using a computer-guided laser beam, the underlying cornea is reshaped. This precise reshaping of the cornea is what changes vision.
Following the reshaping of the cornea, the flap is simply repositioned over the eye, where it will stay without stitches. Because of this method, there is little discomfort and a fast recovery time, and your eye will be completely healed in just a few days. Like with other methods of laser eye correction, you should plan for a couple of days off from work so that you can recover from the process. However, the recovery process is not painful or long.
LASIK eye surgery has recently been growing in popularity, and for good reason. This new process allows you to drastically improve your vision and leave behind your contact lenses or glasses. The painless procedure is very short, and you will see results very quickly. Laser eye correction is getting better every year, and LASIK is one of the newest developments to hit the corrective laser eye surgery world. If you are considering LASIK or any other kind of laser vision correction, meet with your eye doctor for a consultation.
